Cross Country - Coed Varsity
Augusta XC Competes at Mason County

As is typical the day following Labor Day, the cross country teams competed at the Mason County All-Comers Meet on September 05.

In the boys’ varsity 5K, David Reed finished in 19:26, Adam Sallee in 20:18, Seth Fouts in 21:07, Conner Snapp in 21:08, Noah Rayburn in 28:26, and Stephen Cordle in 31:56.  Sallee, Fouts, and Cordle set new personal records in the race.  In the girls’ varsity, Emma Young competed in her first 5K, finishing in 8th place in 21:55.

In the boys’ middle school 3K, Grayson Miller finished 7th in 12:21, Devante Jefferson in 12:53, Josh Bex in 14:11, Will Kelsch in 15:15, Eli Cline in 15:16, Jesse Johnson in 16:06, and Kenton Caudill in 19:30.  Miller, Jefferson, Cline, and Kelsch set new personal bests.

The All-Comers is a tune-up for the Mason County Invitational, held on September 09.  With over 20 schools and more than 1,000 runners in attendance, it has become one of the premier races in northern Kentucky.

“It’s exciting to have such a high quality meet that’s drawing schools from northern, eastern, and central Kentucky and a quality course just down the road from us,” Coach Tim Litteral said.

The boys’ varsity race included 198 competitors.  David Reed finished 58th in 18:46, Adam Sallee in 19:51, and Stephen Cordle in 32:28.  Sallee set a new PR by over 25 seconds.  In the girls’ varsity, Michaela Remley finished in 34:02.

“I hope today was the first step to David really ramping it up for the rest of his senior season, with him getting back in the 18:00s,” Litteral said. To get to state, he’ll need to do that consistently.  And for Adam to break the 20:00 mark, that’s huge considering where he started as a freshmen four years ago.”

The middle school boys’ 3K race featured 123 runners.  Conner Snapp finished 16th in 11:07, Grayson Miller 41st in 12:21, Kenton Caudill in 13:58, Will Kelsch in 14:42, and Jesse Johnson in 16:01.  Snapp, Caudill, and Kelsch all set new personal records.  In the girls’ middle school race with 128 runners, Emma Young placed 8th in 12:09 and Madisonn Wenz placed 64th in 14:27.

Young and Snapp, who are both splitting their time between the middle school and the varsity teams, both had success in the middle school races Saturday.  “Emma ran a good race and was able to snag a top ten spot,” Litteral said.  “And Conner had a 25 second PR and got close to breaking 11:00.  I think that will give him a lot of confidence and motivation to keep working hard, because today’s performance showed he’s improving.”
