Track & Field - Coed Varsity
Augusta Track and Field Competes at Rowan County

In a spring that has seemingly been wetter and cooler than normal, it was a wet start on Tuesday, April 24, as the Augusta track and field team traveled to Rowan County.

In the boys’ 100M dash, Jushod Commodore placed 2nd, setting a new personal record (PR) of 12.34 seconds.  For the girls, Maddie Whiteman ran 15.94, Madison Kelsch 16.14, and Ashleigh Taylor 16.44.  In the 200M dash, Commodore ran 25.94, while Violet Hiles ran 32.54, Whiteman 33.24, Taylor 34.04, and Kelsch 34.44.

Three runners competed in the 800M run.  Adam Sallee set a new personal best of 2:30.28, Seth Fouts ran 2:32.32, and Conner Snapp ran a personal best 2:34.48.  Snapp and Sallee also competed in the 1600M run.  Snapp ran 5:41, while Sallee set a PR of 5:51.

Stephen Cordle set a new personal best in the shot put, throwing 36 feet 11.5 inches, finishing in 3rd place.  John Paul Cordle threw 22 feet 1 inch.  Stephen Cordle also tried his hand at throwing the discus for the first time, an event the program may look to add permanently next year.  He threw 57 feet 9 inches.

In the long jump, Commodore placed 4th, jumping 15 feet 11.25 inches.  For the girls, Kelsch jumped 10 feet 5.5 inches.

“Despite wet and at times rainy conditions, we still had several athletes set personal bests, so it was good to see them perform well in less than ideal conditions,” Coach Tim Litteral said.  “Jushod, in particular, had a strong performance in the 100 to win his heat and finish second.”
