Cordle leads the way for AHS Track & Field at Buffalo Trace Meet

Last Tuesday, May 01, the Augusta track and field team competed in the Buffalo Trace Conference Championship at Fleming County, a conference that include Augusta, Bracken County, Fleming County, Lewis County, and Mason County.

Stephen Cordle was the highest finisher for the Panthers, finishing runner-up in the shot put, throwing 35 feet, 6.75 inches.  Also throwing the shot put was John Paul Cordle, setting a personal best 23 feet 9.5 inches.  In other field events, Seth Fouts jumped 12 feet 10.75 inches in the long jump, while Madison Kelsch jumped a personal best 11 feet 4.5 inches.

“Stephen threw a bunch pitches in a baseball game the night before and didn’t have the best throws, but was still good enough to get in the top two,” Coach Tim Litteral said.  “We hope his arm will be a little fresher heading into Region.”

In the sprinting events, Jushod Commodore had two fourth place finishes.  He ran the 100M dash in 12.14 and the 200M dash in 25.14 seconds.  Both times were personal bests.  Running the 100M for the girls, Maddie Whiteman finished in 15.94, while Kelsch ran 16.24.  In the 200M, Violet Hiles ran 31.84, Whiteman 32.94, and Kelsch 34.24.  Hiles also ran the 400M, setting a personal record of 1:14.84.

Seth Fouts ran the 800M run in 2:26.89, a personal best, while Conner Snapp set a new PR in the 1600M Run, finishing in 5:24.  Snapp also ran the 3200M in 13:01.

“We had several runners improve today and set new personal bests,” Litteral said. “Jushod, Conner, and Seth have each been setting new personal bests in their last two or three races.  That’s what we want to see as we head into region.”

The team was scheduled to finish out the regular season on Tuesday, May 08, at the Ludlow Invitational.  They will compete in the Region 5A Championship on Saturday, May 12, at Danville Admiral Stadium.  The competition begins at noon.
